disconnecting sd/ssd from macbook m1

When I connect an external ssd drive or sd-card to my macbook pro m1 2020 after some time of use they just disconnect from the laptop. It is not possible to retrieve or write data to these media, at the same time the HDD works fine. All of these are connected through an adapter with different connectors, on my last macbook pro 2016 (intel) this problem never happened. How to solve this problem?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.1

See if you have the option in the System Settings "Put hard disk to sleep when possible". If this option is available, then uncheck it. You may need to first have the external drive connected before the option becomes available. I don't know if this option will be available for an SD Card. With macOS Ventura Apple only provides this option when an external hard drive is connected (used to be available all the time with older versions of macOS...what Apple calls progress I guess)....I don't know if it is available when an external SSD or SD card is used.
