Lightning to 3.5mm audio cable stopped audio to wired headphones after upgrade to IOS 16.5.1

I use wired headphones with iPhone 13 at night. This stopped working immediately after I upgraded IOS 16.5.1.

I have been using the same lightning to 3.5mm audio adapter cable for several months since buying iPhone 13.

I have completely rebooted the iPhone. I have unplugged and replugged in the lightning cable connector.

I am reasonably sure that it was the IOS upgrade which caused this problem.

Are there any tests to perform or changes to settings which will solve this?

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Thanks for reaching out Gil Woolley,

It sounds like you're unable to use your wired headphones with your iPhone, even though you've used them in the past. We can help.

Just so we can make sure we are on the same page, some headphones are not compatible with the 3.5mm audio adapter. To rule that out first, can you confirm which headphones you are using?

Additionally, if you try using a different set of wired headphones, does the issue persist?

Let us know, and we'll do all we can to sort this out with you.

Interesting. The headphones happen to be in Amazon as follows:

ROVKING Over The Ear Earbuds for Running, Wrap Around Ear Wired Sports Headphones for Workout Exercise Jogging, Sweatproof in Ear Earphones Ear Buds with Mic for Cell Phones MP3 Laptop, Blue

So, I had two older pair of Apple wired phones. Neither one worked either. That was perhaps not the problem.

So, last April I had purchased three cables lightning to 3.5mm. I swapped from the one I've been using to another never used. That worked fine. Then I tried the third cable that I'd purchased. That also worked. So, it was a failure of the lightning to 3.5mm adapter which coincidently failed at almost the same time as I upgraded to IOS 16.5.1.

So you very much helped me solve the problem but it was not a headphone problem but rather an adapter problem. You got me pointed in the right direction.

Thank you very much.
