Sorting photos

I have Ventura 13.2 on my Mac Mini. There are still quite a few apps that don't seem quite right; but, the one that I'm asking about right now is Photos. In previous versions of the Macintosh operating systems that I have used I could sort photos by date from oldest to newest or newest to oldest. At present, the photos seem to be listed from oldest to newest. I would like to change it so that the newest photos are first with the oldest photos at the bottom. Is there a way to sort by date from newest to oldest? If there is, I am not finding it.

You only need to make one smart album -

  • File > New Smart Album ⌥⌘N
  • call it "My All Photos"
  • and set the rule to "Date Captured > is after 1.1.1". Any date older than the oldest photo on your library will do.

Now you will have your own Album with all your photos that can be sorted, and it will automatically be updated as you add photos to your library.

I admit I'm confused. An Album or a Smart Album can be sorted like this:

An album (but not a Smart Album) can also be sorted manually, as well.

Now, the Library view, for instance, which is a preset view of all your pictures, can't be changed-- that's what the Library view is. It's the same with Recents or Imports or Deleted, etc-- those are built-in views provided by Apple. But if you want to sort all your pictures as you like, then you can make a Smart Album that includes all your pictures:

Then you can sort them as you please. (Unless you were taking pictures in the 17th century...)
