Different Amount of Storage Left in My Macbook

When I open the 'About this Mac', it shows that I still have around 70 GB left of free storage. However, when I open storage in system settings, it shows that i have exceeded my maximum storage with photos app taking up more than 300 GB Space. Which one is the correct information? And does photos app affect my storage greatly?

I have a 13-inch 2018 Macbook Pro with 499,96 GB storage

Different utilities may report different amounts because of the way the measurements are uniquely made by each.

The lesson here is your drive us severely overloaded. You need to leave 15-20% completely unused at all times to allow the OS to work efficiently.

The fix is to move user data to external storage ... photos is a good candidate. Use an external hard drive or a cloud backup service. But not iCloud, as iCloud is an interactive service and is not a long term storage solution.
