Apple Calendar does not work with changes made by the chair

Apple Calendar does not recognize updates made to calendar invites authored by and sent by others to me. I get the email from my contact that outlines all the new details (date/time, call information, video links), and has a new .ics file. I can open that ics file, but it does not update my calendar, which still (and will always, for eternity) shows the original date/time and other details.

Refreshing the calendar does nothing.

I can't even manually move date/time without sending them an embarrassing "propose new time" email. The only workaround is to create a meeting invite for myself and copy the information (which obviously won't update if there are any reschedules, details added, etc).

The other workaround is to use google calendar instead, which works fine, and sync it all up to my iCloud services.

Hi AdamLegion,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand Calendar is not recognizing calendar invites. You may want to go to System Preferences >AppleID > Calendar and toggle this off and back on again to see if the issue persists after doing so. Also, this article has some helpful info about Calendar invites: Send invitations in Calendar on iPhone - Apple Support.

"In the Calendar app, you can send meeting and event invitations. iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, and some CalDAV servers also let you send meeting invitations. (Not all calendar servers support every feature.)

Before you begin

Before you can invite people to events you’ve scheduled, you need to make sure your calendar accounts are turned on.

  • Go to Settings  > Calendar > Accounts, then select an account.
  • Check if Calendar is turned on.
  • For more information on how to add calendars, see Set up multiple calendars on iPhone.

Invite others to an event

You can invite people to an event you’ve scheduled.

  1. Tap the event, then tap Edit near the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Invitees.
  3. Enter the names or email addresses of people you want to invite, or tap the Add button to select Contacts.
  4. Note: For you to send a calendar invitation to a contact, they must have an email address. See Add and use contact information on iPhone.
  5. When you’re finished, tap Done.

If you don’t want to be notified when someone declines a meeting, go to Settings  > Calendar, then turn off Show Invitee Declines.

Note: With Microsoft Exchange and some other exchange servers, you can invite people to an event even if you’re not the one who scheduled it.

Check when invitees are available

  1. Tap an event, then tap Edit near the top of the screen.
  2. Add invitees to the event, then tap Done.
  3. Tap View Availability to see when invitees are free or busy.
  4. Note: You only see the View Availability option if your event is on a calendar service that tracks availability, such as CalDAV.
  5. To find an event time with the fewest or no conflicts, you can:
    • View another day: Tap the arrows at the top of the screen.
    • See the next time all invitees are available: Tap Next Available Time at the bottom of the screen.
  1. Tap an available event time, then tap Done.

Schedule an event without blocking your schedule

You can add an event to your calendar without having the timeframe appear as busy to others who send you invitations.

  1. Tap the event, then tap Edit.
  2. Tap Show As, then tap Free.

Quickly email attendees

You can email all attendees of an event—for example, to share event details.

  1. Tap an event that has attendees.
  2. Tap Invitees, then tap the Send Mail to Invitees button."

Take care.

Jeff_888,

I have the same problem as AdamLegion.

The problem is invites from others (that may be using Windows) that are updated later, like moved earlier or later than originally planned, then those updates appear in my calendar on my iPhone, but not in same calendar on my macs.

So this seems to be a bug in macOS Calendar app, or some incorrect settins in the account setups on my macs.

Do you know how to resolve that?

Thx!
