Face sync in Photos, simply broken

Brand new MB Pro 14" M2 Max, Ventura 13.4, awesome. New iPhone, up to date IOS, also awesome. Basic photo sync between all devices seems fine. BUT Face tag sync in Apple Photos is simply broken. NOT AWESOME! Many faces are the same between the two devices. But many tags are not synchronized. Update a tag in the IOS Photos app, very often the change sync's to the library on the Mac. Why not 100%? Update a tag in the MacOS Photos app, almost never does the tag update to the Phone app. Puh-lease! It's 2023. Apple, if you're not sure how this should work, look at Google photos where face labels always synchronize across all devices, regardless of where the change is made. And, Apple Photos lets you arbitrarily label undetected faces; great feature, but unless those also synchronized to all devices, well, it's just broken! And don't get me going about face support in the apple iCloud Photos web app, where face support is completely missing! I want so much to be able to count on Apple Photos, but today, Google photos wins hands down. Apple, make this right!

Hello memarkf,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

If you're having issues syncing data between your Mac and iPhone, there are a couple actions you can try to see if they help:

  1. Restart both devices
  2. Ensure all devices are running the most current OS version

If you continue to experience issues after updating the macOS and/or iOS, reach out to Apple Support for additional help at Get Support.

Best regards.
