Siri suggestions used as advertisements?
To start with: yes I’m familiar with Siri suggestions and how to disable it. I’m not trying to disable it, I’m trying to figure out if it’s used for advertisements or to drive traffic.
Siri often will suggest a widget and put it in my existing stack. Most of the time is irrelevant or unhelpful, but at least it’s something I use or an app that I already use like photos or something. No big deal. But lately… lately I’ve been noticing a new trend of Siri recommending things I’ve never used or downloaded before. Has happened maybe 4-5 times in the last couple months. Today’s example was a suggestion to make an appointment with Zocdocs with Siri showing a “nearby” link in the stack. (apologies, no screenshot). I clicked the nearby link thinking it would take me to maps and show it was across the street or something and maybe it was a geofenced trigger. Instead, it opened the AppStore for me to download it. I then opened google maps to see where the nearest Zocdocs was and there isn’t one anywhere near. (Like not within 20 miles)
I have never used Zocdocs before, never downloaded the app, and never searched for it. (Also haven’t used or searched related doctor/healthcare stuff)
So… is this a promoted suggestion like a marketing ad? Is this going to become a new thing? Anyone else noticing this?
