Thread devices show no response

I've been struggling with this issue for a few months now and have found this to be the common cause.

I have about a half dozen HomePods (gen 1 & 2), HomePod mini's, Apple Tv's from different generations in my home. Often times I will see that my thread devices are either unresponsive or take a long time to activate (like a wall plugg). Usually this just starts as a spinning wheel next to a device I'm trying to activate then over time degrades to the point of all thread devices showing "no response". My wifi devices work as normal.

Each time I've seen this I look at the home hubs section and find that the connected hub is an older device that does not have built in Thread support. If I unplug this hub then a new hub will be chosen and if it is one with built in Thread then all of the Thread devices begin to work properly again. I have tried removing all of the hubs from my home, doing a hard reset on each then adding them back to the home but the issue repeats itself. BTW, I was an early adopter of the Home update this last December that was subsequently pulled. Everything is up to date with regards to software/firmware for all of my hubs/devices. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks Jeff. Unfortunately, I have done all of these things a couple of times and the result is always the same. When the home hub that is "connected" to a non thread included older Apple TV or first gen HomePod, my thread devices become unreachable over a period of a few days. System works perfectly when the home hub is "connected" to a thread built in Apple TV or HomePod. If I had a way to make sure that the older non thread devices weren't ever selected as the "connected" home, say after a power outage which we get fairly often, I believe the system would work as it is supposed to.

Hello realityfield,

If you completed all of the steps in the article shared by Jeff_W. the next option would be to contact the device manufacture or Apple Support.

"If accessories from one manufacturer aren't responding - If your accessories still aren't responding, contact the manufacturer for support."

"If accessories from several manufacturers aren't responding - If your accessories still aren't responding, contact Apple Support."

Thanks.

Facing the exact same issue described. Great summary OP, both in the initial post and your follow up!

I have tried to find a way to disqualify older hub devices from becoming the chosen one. So far no luck on that. It’s frustrating that a bug as serious as this has persisted for so long, as I have seen this for over a year, since purchasing my first thread devices.

OP – if you’ve had any progress on the issue, please share.
