My input device is on my output device list

Hello,

I am trying to record audio from my hybrid Kawai K-300 onto my 2020 Macbook Air with an M1 chip. I plugged in my piano with an audio cable from the Line Out port into my Mac headphone jack. The piano appears as "External Headphones" in my output devices list, not input devices, where it should be. Also, in Audacity (a sound recording and editing app), I can't record what I'm playing. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you for the reply! I have two audio cables, both with two rings on the ends. Cable 1 came with my Hott CD player, and Cable 2 came with Bose Companion speakers. Both work with music playing or transmitting devices like my Homcasito bedside lamp with a built-in speaker, my iPod touch, and my hybrid Kawai piano, so I thought they would work with my MacBook connected to the piano. I will buy a 3-ring audio cable to record my piano.

You might need a different audio cable in order to get that to work.

On the end of the cable, you should see a number of rings. If it's just 2, then the cable can't "tell" your computer that you've connected an input device, like your keyboard. You need a cable with 3 rings, like this: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Auxiliary-Shielded-Compatible-Headphones/dp/B08RB17ZY1/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=trrs%2Bcable&qid=1687052794&sr=8-3&th=1
