Custom email domain setup

I don’t understand the instructions for setting up a custom email domain with iCloud+ where it talks about AppleIDs.

My appleID is myname@mydomain.com, and that is the email address I want to set up under a custom domain. Do I need to change my appleID to myname@somethingelse.com in order to create and use my custom domain address?

Does the same answer apply to my family members? If wife@mydomain.com is being used as her appleID and we want to create a mailbox under my custom domain for that, will that work, or does she have to reassign her appleID to a new address first?

Hey there Frustrated_Van,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

If your Apple ID is already the email address you want to use, but you'd like to be able to send and receive email via iCloud using that address, then you will likely want to change your primary Apple ID email address in order to accomplish that goal. The same would hold true to any other Apple ID in your Family Sharing group that has the same conditions to start with. We'll share some articles below which should help you get that squared away.

We hope this does the trick for you!

Cheers.
