Using Mac Studio with older 27” Apple Cinema Display

I have a late 2013 Mac Pro with a 27” Apple Cinema Display. I just purchased an M2 Mac Studio. I attached the Cinema Display to the Mac Studio with an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. However, the display does not power on. What am I doing wrong?

What model is the Cinema Display?

read the Product Information details at > Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

Note: This adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays. For more information, visit the Apple Support page for the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.

27-in ThunderBolt display has two component lead-in cord with Thunderbolt (with ThunderBolt symbol, a thunderbolt) and MagSafe.

Apple ThunderBolt-3 <-> ThunderBolt-2 adapter support this one.

--------

27-in Cinema Display has three component lead-in cord with Mini DisplayPort (with Mini DisplayPort symbol, Oval display flanked by vertical bars) USB-A, and MagSafe.

Apple ThunderBolt-3 <-> ThunderBolt-2 adapter will NEVER work with this one.

I am about to get a Studio & have a 3 component cord. It hooks fine to my 27" iMac, why won't it work on the Studio?

it's not a Thunderbolt Display, and the US$50 adapter ONLY supports ThunderBolt displays and NO others, even with additional adapters.

Return the Apple adapter and buy a cheaper ThunderBolt/USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter, and live happily ever after. Here is one:

Monoprice Select Series USB-C to Mini DisplayPort Adapter - Product # 24273 - $9.12

Great thanks, actually I have had the adapter for 2 years now, and my old iMac needs replacing. I did not realize they completely stopped making the 27" iMac, so I am forced to buy another monitor as I like to have 2, though the machine seems very fast, so thanks again.
