Apple Watch Ultra screen is soooo dim at full brightness

This is ridiculous. My Galaxy 5 Pro is always brighter than my Watch Ultra. I looked at a few discussions in this community and tried the iPhone flashlight trick (shine on Watch face), but it only lasts as long as the flashlight is on.

What gives? Why is the screen so dim? How do we fix this? I'm not keen on having to pull out my reading glasses in bed.

Obviously the Watch Ultra screen *can* get brighter. So why isn't there a way to make it stay bright? Not seeing any option for this.

Know this thread is old, but addresses my concern. Getting a new 15 Pro Friday and looking to upgrade to the Ultra2 from my S4. Took the demo Ultra from an Apple store outside with my S4 and the S4 was much brighter. Both watches on max brightness. Both did not do well when sun was directly on them. Even inside the S4 looked brighter and sharper. Ultra seemed dull. Need to rethink buying Ultra2. Will have to test it and S9 with sapphire screen, as that is the screen on my S4. Thanks for any thoughts--
