MAC NOT ENTERING RECOVERY MODE (STUCK ON APPLE LOGO ON ATTEMPT)

Hello, I cannot partition my drive due to a corruption on my it. I have tried getting to recovery mode to fix the problem but my mac won't get into recovery mode no matter what I do. When I hold command-R on boot, it just stays stuck on apple logo with no loading bar. I let it be for over 4 hours hoping for something but nothing changed. I am using an intel based Mac from late 2016 13". Please I need help from anyone.

MacBook Pro (2017 – 2020)

Press the keys immediately after hearing the startup chime. If more than one second elapses, it may be too late. Holding the keys before the startup chime may sometimes work, but other times it may not allow the Mac to do anything until the keys are released.

If you have using Command + R doesn't completely boot because of drive corruption, then try using Command + Option + R to access Internet Recovery Mode which bypasses the corrupt internal SSD.

When running First Aid, make sure to run it on the hidden Container. Within Disk Utility you will need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the hidden Container appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. This way all the APFS volumes will be scanned.

Thanks for this reply.

I have not partitioned it yet. Originally I want to use bootcamp to install windows, but the drive won't partition.

Yes I ran first aid. That is how I know it is corrupt.

It said to fix it via recovery mode.

I will try to get the timing as you suggest. My mac makes the "bong" sound on start up. Do I hit cmd + R just then or before?

I guess this timing can be very tricky.

I have a 2016 MBP 13"

If you are convinced your drive is corrupt, the first thing you should do is not attempt to partition it; solve the corruption issue first.

Have you tried first aid on the drive and its partitions? FA can fix some problems.

Have you tried to remove the corrupt partition and if so what error message did you get. Or are you saying you feel the entire drive is bad?

Getting to the Recovery Panel may require more than one try. My Mac is quite sensitive to timing and I have to press command + R at the precise moment after startup. Holding down Command + R and starting has never gotten that Mac into recovery mode.
