Black dot on my iPad’s Smart Connector

So I have a Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro and I’ve come to realise that my keyboard got disconnected quite frequently. I then proceeded to disconnect my iPad from the keyboard and realised that there is a black dot on my iPad’s Smart Connector. My Magic Keyboard has since then unable to connect to my iPad Pro. Is this a hardware problem that requires going to apple service centre?

Have you been charging the iPad via the spine-connector of the Magic Keyboard? The damage to the contact suggests a poor connection between the Keyboard and iPad during charging.

You may be well advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store - where your iPad and Keyboard can be assessed for problems.
