DisplayPort Monitors keep cycling on and off when MacBook Pro is asleep

I have a MacBook Pro with an M1 Max running 13.4. I have two external 4K LG monitors connected to the MBP via USB-C <-> DisplayPort adapters. When I put my MBP to sleep, either by using the TouchID button or by using the Sleep selection in the Apple menu, the MBP goes to sleep without problems (and stays asleep as far as I can tell), but the external monitors will wake up every 15 seconds or so, display a "No Signal Detected" message, then go back to sleep. This pattern repeats itself.

The exact same hardware configuration worked properly during MBP sleep when the MBP was running 13.3, the only change was updating to 13.4.

The System Log does not show any Wake events when the MBP is supposed to be asleep. Troubleshooting steps that I have tried:

  • Turned of Wake on Network Access
  • Turned of Bluetooth
  • Rebooted the MBP both with and without the external monitors connected
  • Swapped the USBC<->DisplayPort adapter connections on the MBP

When I experienced this issue previously (on older versions of OS X) I found that if I put the MBP to sleep using the Sleep selection on the Apple menu, the external monitors would wake up periodically; using the TouchID to put the MBP to sleep would not cause this problem to occur. So this issue that I am reporting here is a regression.

Same issue for me on my LG curved. There’s no specific pattern to it. Sometimes the monitor will stay off for an hour, sometimes it will turn off and on several times every minute or so.

I have a single USB-C cable coming out of the monitor for display and power, so when I power off the monitor to prevent the on/off behavior I lose charging to my MBP.

Same issue for me on my M2 Mac mini with 2 x Samsung LU28E590DS/EN monitors connected with USB-C to DisplayPort cables. When the Mac mini goes to sleep, the monitors just constantly power cycle without ever showing a picture. I have to either manually switch the monitors off or shut down the Mac entirely.

Total pain - I can't just hit CTL-Command-Q and walk away like I always have.

Same for me. Macbook Air M3 (Sonoma 14.4.1) connected directly to a LG 34WP75C-B via USB-C to DisplayPort. Both devices are up to date. I've read in other forumns where users have avoided the problem using USB-C to HDMI, which isn't what I want to do because this monitor has a significantly lower frame rate with HDMI.

I have the same issue, Mac Mini M2, running Sonoma 14.1 on a Dell U2720Q over USB-C connection.

I've also a Mac Mini 2018 that was running for many years on the same monitor and same cable without this issue.

The old Mac Mini is now connected over HDMI, I might have to change the connections to solve the issues, but I will loose the USB hub on the new Mac Mini.

Would be nice to have a solution for this issue.
