iMac crashing using Adobe Lightroom - Adobe says is driver or hardware issue

What:  When using Lightroom CC -the “Enhance…” feature- the computer SOMETIMES crashes and reboots.

There is NO dialog box, the screen goes black, and the computer reboots. The computer shows NO signs of issues otherwise.

Issue:  The images that crash Lightroom CC “Enhance…” have very flat areas (background sky).  They will reliably crash the computer when the enhance function is selected.  The enhance takes a significant amount of time (longer than it usually does by at least 3x, then the computer reboots.   If the same image has noise added to the sky background, the enhance function runs as expected.

I have contacted Adobe, and they say: “That is likely a hardware issue or a system-level driver issue. I would recommend contacting Apple for assistance with reviewing any logging you have enabled."

Anecdotal:  I did not have crashes prior to upgrading to Ventura 13.4, but I might not have enhanced any images with a very low noise background.

Can you help me with a path forward?

Hi Alohaphotostyle,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your Mac restarts when you use Lightroom. If you have checked for updates, removed and reinstalled, the app, it would be best to run Apple Diagnostics on your Mac to rule out any hardware issues.

Prepare your Mac
1. If you're able to install the latest macOS updates, do so before continuing.
2. Shut down your Mac.
3. Disconnect all external devices except keyboard, mouse, display, Ethernet connection (if applicable), and connection to AC power.
4. Make sure that your Mac is on a hard, flat, stable surface with good ventilation.

Start Apple Diagnostics
Determine whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps:
Apple silicon
1. Press and hold the power button on your Mac. (Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.)
2. As you continue to hold the power button, your Mac turns on and loads startup options. When you see Options, release the power button.
3. Press and hold Command (⌘)-D on your keyboard.
4.
Intel processor
1. Turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold the D key on your keyboard as your Mac starts up.
2. Release when you see a progress bar or you're asked to choose a language.
If using the D key doesn't work, press and hold Option (⌥)-D at startup instead. If neither method works, review the guidelines for using key combinations at startup.
You may be asked to choose a language and make sure that you have an active network connection. You can use the Wi-Fi menu  in the upper-right corner of your screen to choose a Wi-Fi network.

These steps can be found in Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support.

If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

Regards.

If your Mac passes Apple Hardware Diagnostics, you might want to try some of the things Adobe suggests in this support document:

Adobe – Troubleshoot graphics processor (GPU) and graphics driver issues | Lightroom Classic

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

If you can narrow down the circumstances under which the problem occurs, that might help you describe the problem more completely to Adobe Support and/or Apple Support.
