MacBook Pro (2017) Will Not Connect to Scanner

I am using a MacBook Pro 2017 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 currently running Ventura 13.4. I am suddenly unable to use the type of scanner I have used with this machine countless times, a very basic CanoScan LIDE400. This is a USB powered scanner. When plugged in, the scanner makes a sound that it is powering on. The machine "sees" the connection when I look in System Settings. But, it does not show up with Image Capture and will not work with the (current/correct) downloaded driver and software from Canon. I have seen similar threads related to this and have tried everything. I have also tried all four ports on the computer. I have also tried different cables. The machine has been rebooted several times. The scanner works perfectly on a friend's Macbook. I also tried connecting a Canon PIXMA scanner with the same results. Other peripherals work fine including my Canon EOS utility when hooked up to my DSLR camera and my external hard drives. Any advice is appreciated.

If it is listed as AirPrint printer/scanner, delete the existing printer in

> System Settings> Printers & Scanners, and add it again, select AirPrint.
