Try doing an online search for
Excel home inventory
Download one you like and in Numbers go File > Open, navigate to the downloaded file and open it.
You'll then probably want to format it to taste.

Hi mrmic,
Assuming you'll be constructing this inventory for insurance purposes, I'd suggest going to the Insurance Bureau of Canada to take a look at their suggested contents of a home inventory (and the supporting documents—manuals, receipts, etc.) that will support your claims for the loss of these items).
The site also contains a printable sample template for such an inventory, which includes a list of items that might be in your home (good source for memory joggers of the things you should include) could be used as a model from which you could design a custom set of tables for a Numbers document.
Like SGII, IBC also recommends searching for and studying Excel templates for this type of document (as do I). Most basic Excel templates wll translate easily to Numbers document format.
Take a look at a few of them, then build your inventory document using the one that appeals the most.
Regards,
Barry
PS: Post back here to let us know what you chose. I'd be interested in knowing your choice!
