Subscriptions charged to account balance

For the last couple of months my Apple streaming subscriptions have been charged to "Account Balance" instead of my charge account. What is this and when do I get billed?

Do you mean your valid payment method on file?

See -> Add a payment method to your Apple ID -> Add a payment method to your Apple ID – Apple Support (UK)

Select your card as your payment method.

Thanks for replying...I just figured it out. I had redeemed a gift card a couple of months ago and that's what was being charged instead of my Visa, my "valid payment method on file". I wasn't aware that Apple would bill against that account first before charging to my Visa. Thanks again for replying.
