Transferring data from an old to new iPad.

I have a seven year old iPad which is dying. It has 128 gigs of RAM, but at the moment I'm only using about 60 gigs of ram. 20 gigs of that are for music but I rarely use it to play back music. I am thinking of replacing it with an entry-level iPad version nine but with only 64 gigs of ram. How do I transfer the contents of my old iPad to the new iPad selectively instead of doing a complete transfer of everything that's on my old iPad onto my new iPad? I don't need music playback because I have that on my iPhone and there are also a number of apps on my old iPad that I won't be needing on a new iPad. What I'm likely to use the new iPad for its basic stuff like web surfing, email, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, watching YouTube videos and, on occasion, downloading movies and TV shows that I can watch on long flights.

Your iPad may have 128GB of internal (flash) storage - but it certainly doesn’t have anything close 128GB RAM. Even the most advanced iPad Pro has “only” 16GB RAM - but will have either 1TB or 2TB of internal storage.

These support pages should get you started with setup of your new iPad - and the methods of transferring your data from old to new iPad:

Set up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

If the donor iPad, from which you are transferring your data precedes iOS12.4, QuickStart will not be available.

“Transfer” is rather a misnomer. In reality, your data and setup is merely cloned to the new device. Nothing is moved or removed from the original device.

The alternative is to restore either an iCloud or iTunes backup to the new device:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch – Apple Support

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

In either case, you should note that your Music Library is not “transferred” to the new iPad. Instead, if you wish your Music Library to be moved onto the new iPad, it must be re-synchronised from the original source - this being the Windows PC or Mac computer upon which the library is stored.
