Apple Cash In Store Refunds

I work at a store where we accept Apple Pay as payment - yesterday someone wanted a refund for their purchase made with Apple Cash (NOT the Apple Card) and the system would not allow for us to refund back into Apple Cash. Has anyone experienced this and has any answers about how to do a refund back to Apple Cash if that’s how they paid?
