Macbook Pro (2023) with M2 Pro chip wont recognise 2nd external display.

Both monitors connect via Thunderbolt cables through a docking station and show up. However, it only allows me to extend on one monitor and then duplicates this on the second monitor. In the display setting it doesn't show up as though I have a second external display connected. Any fixes for this please?

joshuaf94,

  1. Is this a Thunderbolt docking station, or a "plain" USB-C one?
  2. What happens if you plug one of the monitors directly into the 16" M2 Pro MacBook Pro, and the other into the docking station?

I'm trying to get at whether this is an issue with how many monitors you can attach to a single port, as opposed to how many monitors you can attach, total.

I think in the old (Thunderbolt 1/2) days, some Macs supported daisy-chaining of two Thunderbolt monitors (with individual resolutions of 4K or less), but not daisy-chaining of two Mini DisplayPort monitors. Could there be something analogous to that going on?!?

A detailed description of each item and exactly how they are connected is required for analysis.

exactly what make&model docking device, and your attestation that it is actually using ThunderBolt, with the Thunderbolt trademark on the Mac-end of the cable. and the length of the cable.

any additional adapters or other items inserted anywhere in the cabling.

exactly what displays by make& model or a link to their specs

V380 looks up to stuff that is not applicable. What is a V380 in this context?

Having the same issue. System Settings > 'Displays' only recognizes either one external display or the other when both USB-C adapters are connected.

MacBook Pro, 2022, M2, Ventura 13.4, 2 USB-C ports

Displays are connected via adapter's HDMI ports.

1st USB-C

Adapter: MOKiN model#: MOUC0401

Display: AOC 24B2W1 model#:24B2XH

2nd USB-C

Adapter: MOKiN model#: MUC0501B

Display: ViewSonic VX3276-FHD model#: VS17220

Have tried DisplayLink Manager and macOS InstantView and neither app detects USB display. I also have a UtechSmart adapter model#:UCN 3273 I have tried and doesn't work either.

Thank you in advance for your help.
