If someone in the group whamts to add a conversation with another member of the group, how would it be done?

Are you referring to someone inviting someone else to your group conversation? If so, the steps in here can help with how to do that: Add and remove people in group text messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
Please note that if this is an SMS/MMS message thread, you will not be able to add people to it. That is only possible on iMessage group chats.
