Somehow a plain text file of a short story of mine got converted into a Unix Executable File, the text now being unreadable by text applications. How do I use Terminal to convert it back to a plain text file?

So simple! Thank you. Once adding the ".txt" click on Open With the App you think best fits the contents {Word, Excel, etc.). Then do a Save As in the final format you want it to be in (.doc, .xls, etc.).
Try adding the .txt extension in the Finder.
