Parent info shows as iphone's "ME" in contacts on child's parental controlled iPhone.

Hello, I have a parental controlled iPhone 12 mini for my child that is running iOS 16.5. For some reason in his contacts app it shows my contact information as being the "me" for his phone, instead of his own contact info.

His apple id is the one logged into on the phone, not mine. All parental controls seem to be functioning normally.

So far this hasn't been a huge issue, but one I would like to find out more about and correct if possible. I am running the parental controls from my iPhone 13, also running iOS 16.5.

No, then it deletes myself as a separate contact on his phone. For some reason his ID card, and my number in contacts are linked.

Hey designhero,

If editing your contact card on your child’s device also edits your contact information on your device, it sounds like you’re sharing your Apple ID with your child, correct?

If so, we recommend using the steps in this article to create an Apple ID for your child, signing out of your Apple ID on the child’s device, then signing in with their own Apple ID: Create an Apple ID for your child - Apple Support

This article provides an overview of Family Sharing and how it works: What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support

Once you’ve set up Family Sharing, you’ll need to refine the restrictions you’ve set up previously: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

All the best.

Hey designhero,

Let's check your child's iPhone settings to make sure that they have their information on there. On your child's iPhone, go to Settings > Contacts. What do you see under the 'My Info' section? Also, check out the 'Accounts' section from the Contacts settings. How many accounts do you see on there and are they your account or your child's own account?

Another step is to go to the Contacts app and select the 'Contacts' tab at the bottom, then scroll all the way to the top to check what name it shows. You can check out this user guide on how to add your own contact info: Add your contact info on iPhone

We'll be looking forward to your response!

Best regards.

I have the exact same issue described, and it is definitely NOT that my sons iPhone 11 is signed on with my AppleID. It is signed with his own AppleID which is linked to my account via Family, with parental controls.

Nonetheless, under Settings->Family on his phone it shows my name twice ( as “Me” and as “parent/guardian”) although when looking at the details of each, one has his AppleID and one has mine as expected.

More worryingly, the “MyCard” in the Contacts App shows my details INCLUDING my phone number, and is the ONLY version of me in his contact list. ( he does have his own phone number which is working!). It is assigned his profile photo however.

I have the feeling this behavior may have started when I allowed my family group to share my iCloud storage plan. Could it be???

thank you anyone who can support myself and others with this buggy issue!!!
