Apple TV app’s crashing

Why do all the apps on my Apple TV 4K box keep crashing? It’s updated, so that’s not it. They either crash upon opening or even after I press play after having paused a show. If it was one app I’d say that particular app needs an update, but it’s all the ones I’ve used. Disney, Amazon, Paramount, Hulu, Max, BritBox for reference. It’s infuriating!

How to resolve Apple TV app playback issues on LG TV? Using the Apple +TV app I can bring up the home page displaying all movies, series, and other content. After choosing a product to watch, it displays the icon that indicates the content is loading but the content doesn't appear. A message does appear saying "Unable to play. Linking between TV and other apple tv apps broken after most recent update. After the most recent update, linking between the TV app and my other streaming apps got hosed. I have 2 other apple tv's, they were unaffected. The closest I can get to fixing it is to go into TV, search for a show in one of the other apps, go down to "How to Watch" go to the app in question (they all say "get" despite being installed and working independently), select it, it THEN asks to connect the app to the Apple TV app. I select connect and get a spinning indicator of death. I've restarted the Apple TV several times, it's had NO effect.

Hello Penlady,

When you say the apps are crashing, do they just go back to the Home Screen? Or, do you see any kind of errors or alerts?

In addition, based on what you describe, we'd recommend going through the troubleshooting steps found at If your Apple TV doesn't turn on or shows a black screen - Apple Support. This covers many basic steps all the way up to resetting your Apple TV, which we do recommend if basic steps don't help.
