Siri voice stutters and lags and breaks

I have a shortcut setup that speaks some text in the morning once I stop the alarm, the text consists of weather info from my location.

When I run the shortcut everything works as expected, but in the morning when I am actually trying to listen to the Siri, it stutters like and breaks.

Any idea to fix it? I am using American voice 2

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

@mouryarishik I'm having the same issues with shortcuts that are activated by a trigger (connecting to charger) and have Siri speak either a short battery status message, or run a series of other shortcuts to get the outlook for my upcoming day at bedtime. If the phone is unlocked (active) when these triggers happen I have no issues. But, if the phone is locked (idle) then I start to get the audio issues -- to the point where I can't even understand what Siri is saying anymore.

I thought maybe it was due to Sleep focus being enabled early in the shortcut that the phone went into a lower power mode. But, it did it again during the day when I connected power and Siri was cutting in and out just announcing the battery percentage. I was at low battery level (red) but not in low power mode. I tried putting it in Low Power Mode after it charged above 20% to see and Siri had no problems. Still not convinced that it's not an issue with the way it was running on the phone.

So, I ran a couple of tests and found an interesting situation. I took the first paragraph of this post, pasted into a text block, then had Siri speak the "text" variable using the same charger trigger. She was all broken again reading out the entire text block -- however I noticed that text I put directly into a Speak block was read back just fine. So I copy and pasted the text block straight into the Speak block without calling a variable and ran it again. Siri sounded just fine that time. Now, I'm not saying this should fix the issue entirely, because I did have an event where even Speak text was broken during one occasion. I will however, try and swap out my Text blocks for Speak blocks and see how my Bedtime Shortcut works this evening.

Bluetooth interference can potentially cause Siri to stutter due to the disruption of the wireless communication between devices. Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency range, which is also used by various other devices such as Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, cordless phones, and even some baby monitors. When multiple devices are operating in close proximity and using the same frequency band, interference can occur.

Here's how Bluetooth interference can impact Siri's Voice:

  1. Audio Streaming Interruptions: When you're streaming music via Apple Music or using Siri to play audio content, Bluetooth interference can disrupt the connection between your device (such as an iPhone) and the Bluetooth speaker or headphones. This interference can result in the audio stuttering, dropping out momentarily, or experiencing poor sound quality.
  2. Data Packet Loss: Bluetooth devices transmit data in packets. Interference can cause some of these packets to be lost or corrupted during transmission. As a result, the receiving device may have trouble decoding the audio or Siri commands correctly, leading to stuttering or delayed responses.
  3. Signal Weakening: Bluetooth signals can be weakened by interference from other devices operating on the same frequency band. If the signal strength drops significantly, it can affect the stability of the connection between your device and the Bluetooth accessory. This can result in intermittent stuttering as the connection struggles to maintain a consistent data flow.
  4. Channel Congestion: Bluetooth uses different channels within the 2.4 GHz frequency range to establish connections. When there are many Bluetooth devices in close proximity, multiple connections can create congestion on the available channels. This congestion can cause interference, leading to degraded performance for Apple Music streaming or Siri interactions.

To mitigate Bluetooth interference issues and reduce stuttering:

  1. Reduce Device Density: Minimize the number of active Bluetooth devices in close proximity to each other. Switch off or move away devices that are not in use or causing interference.
  2. Increase Distance: Increase the distance between your Bluetooth devices (e.g., your iPhone and Bluetooth speaker/headphones) to reduce the impact of interference.
  3. Update Firmware: Keep your devices' firmware up to date, including your iPhone and any Bluetooth accessories. Manufacturers often release firmware updates that can improve the performance and stability of Bluetooth connections.
  4. Avoid Obstacles: Objects like walls, furniture, or large metal surfaces can obstruct Bluetooth signals and contribute to interference. Ensure a clear line of sight between your devices to optimize signal strength.
  5. Switch Channels: Some Bluetooth devices allow you to manually switch to different channels within the 2.4 GHz range. Check the user manual or settings of your Bluetooth accessory to see if you can change channels to find a less congested one.
  6. Use Wi-Fi 5 GHz: If your Wi-Fi router supports it, consider using the 5 GHz frequency band for Wi-Fi connections instead of 2.4 GHz. This can reduce potential interference between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals.

By implementing these steps, you can help minimize Bluetooth interference and improve the overall performance of Siri's voice.

I don't think Bluetooth might be the issue here since when I rerun the shortcut again after using my phone for literally just 1 min, then it speaks just fine. I think when iPhone idle for long it goes into some slow state or something to save power.... idk just a guess.

In my case Siri stutters even when no Bluetooth device is connected and only the iPhone is the sound output.

I thought the same thing about it going into a low-power “sleep” mode since it seemed fine as long as I kept the display active. But, while troubleshooting a separate issue about speech volume control, I found a suggestion to play a silent track from Apple Music and volume settings would apply to speech as well. Secondarily, it seemed to resolve the broken Siri dictation as I have not noticed that issue since. If you have an Apple Music sub then just search for “Silent tracks” by Brett Black.
