Keyboard preferences - optional default keyboard setting

There ought to be a user-defined default setting for Keyboard Text Input Input sources.

I mostly write in English and would set that as my default, but have a list of four other languages as input sources that I use occasionally.

Quite often, it happens that the keyboard suddenly switches to French or German without any conscious selection on my part. The resulting misspellings soon become obvious, but it is annoying that there is not a default keyboard option.

Switching to azerty or qwertz layouts for occasional French or German seems pretty uncomfortable. Both languages can be easily typed from an English qwerty keyboard via press and hold or option key diacritics or the US International PC layout.
