After a year and more there is still no Nikon Nef codec support for Z9. Is it so difficult or simply they don't care ?
As a photographer is essential for me to be able see the photos immediately instead of importing them in other applications. I really don't get it.
Being almost ready to upgrade from Mac Pro(trashcan) to Mac studio I really do having second thoughts.
If there is no support until the WWDC I will certainly check the other way...

Which system version is running on your Mac? The Nikon Z9 is supported on macOS 13 Ventura, as Yer_Man mentioned. But you have to stick with the lossless Raw, as shown in the footnote 5 in this KB article: Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura - Apple Support

Or is your problem, that the thumbnails are not showing the picture? I have installed the little helper Raw Right Away to be seeing the RAW images instantly in the preview in the Finder. NEF Codec?
NEF is the most common file suffix used for Raw photograph files from Nikon brand cameras. There is Raw support for this camera (the z9) in OS Ventura. It's been supported for quite a while now.
Codec are (most usually) used to describe the software required to encode and decode video streams. As NEFs are still images I've no idea what you mean by a NEF codec. Can you clarify?

Very cool! I'm not sure that I care about Z8 NEFs in Photos, but seeing them with QuickLook is a big improvement!
The RAW support for the Z9 is built into the system, since February: Formats RAW d’appareils photo numériques compatibles avec iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma et visionOS - Assistance Apple (FR)
But when I try to open any of the sample images from this page, I am only seeing blank images in Photos on my Mac: https://photographylife.com/nikon-z9-sample-images-raws
Metapho is showing them as 14 bit per sample.

Bonjour, nous sommes en juin 2024 et il n'y a toujours pas de solution pour ouvrir les vignettes photos dans le FINDER de mes photos du NIKON Z9 en RAW (.NEF) sur mon mon Max studio M2 Max 2023. Je trouve que c'est un manque de concideration des Photographes qui sont aujourd'hui des millions à utiliser ce type de fichiers. "Nikon Z9 va dans l'espace et sera dans ISS dés Janvier 2024 et avec la mission ARTEMIS III "
