Netflix "next episode" blurry video on 3rd Gen Apple TV.

I noticed on Netflix shows with multiple episodes, when one episode is over and after the "next episode" bar is done, the next episode starts very blurry. My tested internet (wifi) connection speed averages 700 Mbps down and 23 Mbps up. I have to click the back button and restart the episode to clear it up. I have the wifi version only, but I don't think there is an issue of internet speed. Any other possibilities of the issue? Anybody else having this issue?

I’m having the same issue. It’s only with Netflix, and only when the next episode starts. If I back out and start it again everything is as it should be. I wonder what could be causing the issue.

Eh, no. Netflix maintains the Netflix app for Apple TV, just like all third party apps are created by external developer teams. But this doesn’t matter much, as the stream quality is determined by the CDN servers that sends the content, when your account and app and device are set for maximum quality.


When this happens, the content provider is throttling down bandwidth and streams a lower bitrate, with all the artifacts that come from that. It may or may not have to do with peak capacity for them, possibly other factors, but it is not caused by a streaming device per se.


It happened to me for a week or so, some time back. Not before that, nor currently.
