Apple Msic Atmos support on non Apple devices

Hi there,

I'm a regular Apple Music user. Has the LG G2, Samsung Q930C home entertainment combo at home which supports Dolby Atmos. I'm afraid don't use Apple TV 4k. Currently, there is no way I can play Apple Music Atmos content on my home entertainment system because,

a. Apple Music LG app doesn't support Dolby Atmos

b. Airplay 2 cast to Samsung soundbars does not support Doly Atmos.

So the question is, will we be seeing an update to the Apple Music LG app with Atmos support? Currently, LG Tidal app supports this feature but not Apple Music nor Amazon.

I can confirm the latest LG TV Apple Music app has Dolby Atmos support. I received the update yesterday 29/04/2024 in Australia. Apple has taken the feedback provided via their feedback forum and it is a very positive result. ☺️.

My only concern is, when Dolby Atmos is turned on the song looses a fair bit of fidelity. Across the whole frequency spectrum the song’s volume and fidelity get trimmed for some reason.

This is still the first version Apple has introduced this. So I’m pretty sure it will be fixed in coming releases

You are correct in the limitations of Apple Music on the LG (and other) TV's as well as the limitation of AirPlay 2. Given that we are just users like you, we don't have any inside information on when this would be available. I do think this should be available in the TV app and our only recourse is to provide Feedback.

Thanks. Sent through a feature request. Apple TV+ LG app already supports Dolby Vision and Atmos. So bringing this feature into Music shouldn't be too hard. At least technically.

I totally agree and I also have a LG TV and do like having Apple Music as an app, but I usually end up listening to my HomePods for the Atmos support. With Apple pioneering Atmos in their products early, it seems to be a misstep to have Tidal beat them in support on the TV. I sent them feedback as well.
