Siri is No Longer Pronouncing my Contact Names Correctly.

It seems like Siri isn’t pronouncing my contact names correctly and it is becoming a bit of an annoyance; especially when the previous updates made it super easy to train Siri to pronounce names simply by allowing Siri to record your voice then, coming up with various ways to choose the correct form. Currently apple has added a feature in Contacts to add the pronunciation however, even after breaking syllables down in Lehman terms, Siri is not quite getting it right.

is there a way to correct this issue and will Apple acknowledge that this is a talked about problem; hopefully find a way to resolve it?

Hey there! I found that writing your pronunciation of the name in the “Phonetic first name” field in Contacts instead of the “Pronunciation first name” field fixed the problem for me. I’m not sure why Apple has both fields as options, but “Phonetic” was the one that worked for me. I had to go through a lot of trial and error to find the spelling that would get Siri to say the correct name, but it eventually worked. I also don’t know why they removed the option to simply speak the proper pronunciation to Siri, which was clearly a better option. I hope that helps!

How’s this for clarity? My wife’s name is spelled INA. Siri used to pronounce it as EENA. I trained it to pronounce it as EYE NA.

However, with iOS 15, 16 and now 17. I have to give it a phonetic pronunciation in which case I put eye na. Depending on whether I’m trying to call or send mail or text, Siri gives different pronunciations.

sometimed Siri puts the accent on the last syllable. I have found no instructions on how to make it accent the correct first syllable.
