Issue with Wifi Protocol on Macbook Pro 2023 M2 Pro Chip

Hello,

My university uses a wifi network with protocol Wifi 6(802.11ax) and security type WPA2-Enterprise. So how does this work is that I select the wifi network ---> I am prompted to enter my username and password (normally not through some separate portal) --> and I am connected. I stay connected for a time and then it disconnects. I have a friend with the same macbook and he has no issues. I have all the latest updates.

Worth to mention: I have tried all the ways to fix this. I stayed for 2 weeks with Apple Support but even they don't know how to fix this after going from a full reset to safe mode etc. .

I also asked the uni network team and it's all good. Systems are not in maintenance nor they have any issues with it.

System information:

M2 Pro Chip

16 gb of ram

macOS Ventura 13.3.1(a)

16 inch model

MacBook is from 2023

1 TB drive space

That is a tool for you to use, to see if something changes in the physical Wi-Fi setup. if you go away form university and it changes, that is exactly what is expected.

If you did not quickly uncover any issues, perhaps the issue is some software rather than Wi-Fi Hardware, settings, or radio problems.

Consider downloading this little free 'discovery' utility, Etrecheck, to look around and report on how your Mac is doing overall. Its reason for existing is to produce a report, already laundered of all personally-identifiable information, to post back to the forums.

I won't be for a few days back at uni. But yeah, I sent that to the apple support and they didn't see any anomalies with it. If it helps I saw in some super old threads that there was an issue WPA2-Enterprise security networks and the symptoms were the same. In that thread from what I remembered it said they fixed that issue in future patches.

It will be helpful to see that snapshot.

There are also some built-in Wi-Fi diagnostic tools, but they can be a little awkward to use.

The most recent case referencing WPA-2 that I saw does not apply to you. In that case, the user had accidentally set WPA-2 without the supporting Authentication Server required, and of course they could not get on.

you have a good signal level (RSSI) of -57. You are not too far away form your Router. Noise is not too high.

You have connected to a Router in the 5 GHz band providing a 40 MHz data-channel 52. Your Mac is demodulating with its best ability, and using 1024 patterns per signaling interval, transmitting at the fastest possible speed available, using both of your two antennas together for a transmit rate of 573 M bits/sec, far faster than most home Internet connections. that connection is as fast as your Wi-Fi can run under with that Router.

WPA-2 Enterprise is a system supported by a login Server on the network. In your case, your computer is looked up in an EduRoam database to provide authentication based on the credentials you provided.

Since you have been through using Safe mode, and getting your University support looking at this, I suggest another way. Hold the option key and click on the Wi-Fi Icon on the Menubar, and selected Wireless Diagnostics.

this puts up "about Wireless diagnostics information, and provides a button to continue. Click that button. This will do a check for odd Wi-Fi settings, and may give you some recommendations. This screen next presents a pair of radio button labeled

O Monitor my Wi-Fi connection

O Proceed to summary.

Choose Monitor. Click the (Continue) button and just leave that window open in the background, possibly for days. Go about your business. If your physical Wi-Fi connection gets worse, you will get an alert, and possibly some helpful information.

I came back to say that later updates seems to have fixed the issue. So, if you have the same symptoms make sure to have your latest updates installed (for example at the moment I am running Sonoma 14.0). If you update your system, and the issue is still there. I don't know even if RMA'ing would fix it because this was more software side rather than hardware. If you contact support make sure you have a wifi log at hand as well. Also take videos of the wifi when it drops and so on because the support might ask for those as well.
