Find my iphone

Why does find my iphone show my friends location from yesterday? I know this person does have internet and all the settings right as snapmap works just fine, but find my iphone won't work. All my other contacts on find my iphone have updated locations, except this one person. Is it possible that this person has turned off their location in find my iphone? if so, why doesn't it show "location not found" instead of yesterday?
