safari connects to the internet, chrome will not connect on my macbook pro

Abruptly, after I removed Norton 360 after it became corrupted, my google chrome stopped working giving me a message NO INTERNET.

ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED

I discovered that Safari does work.

At the moment I cannot connect using What app too - the message here is -

Computer not connected

Make sure your computer has an active Internet connection.

Any Ideas on how to troubleshoot?

I have reinstalled google chrome. My Norton antivirus is not installed at the moment.

It seems like the removal of Norton 360 may have changed some settings or left some residual files that are affecting Chrome and WhatsApp. Here's a few steps to try:

  1. Clear Chrome's browsing data: Go to Chrome's settings > More Tools > Clear Browsing Data. Check all boxes and click 'Clear data'.
  2. Reset Chrome's settings: Go to Chrome's settings > Advanced > Reset and clean up > Restore settings to their original defaults > Reset settings.
  3. Check your system's firewall: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall. Make sure Chrome and WhatsApp are allowed through.
  4. If you're comfortable with it, you might also want to check your hosts file to ensure nothing there is blocking Chrome or WhatsApp. You can do this by opening Terminal and typing 'cat /etc/hosts'.

If none of these work, it might be worth trying to reinstall Norton 360 to see if it can correct the issue, then uninstall it again using a tool like AppCleaner to ensure all files are removed.
