Flagged folder in Mac Mail not working

I have Mac mail set up with just my iCloud mail account.

There's a "Flagged" folder that has been there for years, with subfolders for each flag colour.

However, if I unflag emails, they don't disappear from that folder (despite restarting Mail or MacOS).

When I log in at iCloud.com, I noticed this folder doesn't exist at all, and you can only add flags of one colour to emails. There's also no equivalent folder that shows flagged emails.

Has this feature been deprecated, or is there a way to restore it to working order?

I too use Apple Mail associated Only with my iCloud account

The Flagged messages, of whatever colour, I have moved to Archive Folder ( Personal Preferences )

Right Now I have 11 message Flagged ( 3 Green and 8 Orange flags )

Refer to First Image below

I have UN-Flagged 1 of the Orange Flagged e-mails and the count for Orange dripped to 7 Orange Flags

Perhaps the user needs to Add to Favourites to see all the available Folders in Apple Mail

This "Flagged" is a kind of Smart Folder, not an actual mailbox.

I take it that you are seeing it under "Favorites", right?

How are you removing the flags: from within the Flagged smart folder? Click on some other folder (the Inbox, for example), and then click on Flagged again, and it will update.

Or remove the flag from the message in the actual mailbox it lives in, and it will disappear instantaneously from "Flagged".
