choosing what number to use before any call

This question has been asked multiple times, and I wonder if there was any update made for it. I have recently switched from Samsung to iPhone, having a dual SIM card. As multiple contacts may have multiple phones numbers, is there a way how I can select one of my phone numbers/SIM cards to be used before an actual phone call? Samsung had an option/pop out message allowing me to choose what SIM of mine I want to use for each call. It was very practical. Here, with iPhone, I understand the default setting and how I can go to individual contact details and change it for each contact separately. However, this is not practical if one has many contacts, and something similar to the Samsung feature would be highly appreciate here too.

(Similarly for SMS messages, it would be useful to be able to choose what SIM should be used for each SMS sent.)

Thank you for the hint. I noticed that features you just described, but I found it not practical considering I would need to click on the “>” of every single contact.

Ideally, there would be an option how I select both SIM cards to be set as 'always ask which SIM to be used' prior making any regular phone call.

This area is not so obvious.

Open any of your contacts.

Immediately under the name will be a “Last Used” along w/ a “>”

Click on the “>” and you can select the preferred line to be used when dialing any contact.

This also works immediately prior to dialing - once the contact it opened - as well. (Obviously the carrier you use to place a call often depends on where you are)

When manually dialing a number, a dropdown at the top of the keypad allows line selection.

Hint: This is why it’s a good idea to give more descriptave names to your SIMs/eSIMs (e.g. T-Mobile, Vodaphone, Verizon, Orange, …)

Hi just choose your primary Sim.

Use Dual SIM on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)

Choose the default line for cellular data—tap Cellular Data, then tap a line. To use either line depending on coverage and availability, turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching.
