iPad issues with Canon CR3

Hello,

I have photos in Canon CR3 format on my iPhone 13 Pro (iOS 16.5) and I can view the photos, edit and all metadata seems correct. Works fine in Photos and Files app.

However, when I airdrop the same photos in CR3 to my M1 iPad Pro 11” (iPadOS 16.5), the thumbnail is black, I can open it and show metadata on Photos app. On Files app, it does not even open and no metadata

Are CR3 files not compatible with M1 iPads?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 16

Hi wjie20,

It looks like you're having some issues with a Canon RAW file on your iPad, but you're able to view and edit the photos from your iPhone. Is that right?

To start, we recommend double-checking to ensure your specific camera model is included in this list: Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura. It sounds like it may be based on your description of the issue, but we do want to confirm as that would help us narrow things down.

Also, you mentioned you're using AirDrop. If you try the steps in this link to instead import the photos to your iPad, do you get different results? Knowing if this only happens with AirDrop will also be good information for troubleshooting: Import photos and videos to iPad

Have a good one.

Hello Ryane77,

Yes, that is right. I am having issues with Canon Raw file on the iPad but it works fine to view and edit on my iPhone.

I can confirm that the device is listed to be compatible in the link you provided.

I’ve tried directly downloading the file and transferring from the camera itself. However that does not work.

Appreciate if you could share other ideas that may help. Thank you
