system data

My system data is huge, now taking up about 153 GB off my 256 GB. How can I lower the system data usage?

Hello yong14,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

The best place to start is to update and restart your device following these instructions:

You can also view storage recommendations to help clear up more available storage. Go here for more information: How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad

All the best!

this is caused due to iOS not being able to calculate the ammount of storage not that you are using to much.

System data usually takes only 12 gb or less .

hi better make an icloud backup ,

most likely restart and update wont cut it to fix it.

Make a backup on icloud.

Sign out of apple id.

I would suggest a full restore from itunes and delete of the whole files.

The best would be to try that, and do it twice once restoring the backup again to see if the bug is within the backup.

If it doesnt happed great.

If it does reinstall again but dont restore the backup.

Thanks.

I've dealt with this issue with 16 and 32 GB iPhones where the system data and/or "other" categories just balloon. It's drastic but I'll make sure that I have a backup on my Mac and then reset and then restore from the backup. Then it just clears up. Sometimes I've done that when I couldn't update iOS because of lack of available storage, but that just rebuilds with the latest compatible version of iOS and then the backup has always restored it properly.

There are some things that would need to be redone, like Touch ID or Face ID, as well as some settings like large icons that only restore to default settings.
