Problem with printing suddenly

My iPhone is showing ‘gathering information from printer’ suddenly after using the printer for a few years.

It works fine with my iPad. I have just upgraded to version 16.5 on my phone and still has the problem. Reset the printer WIFI - still a problem. Help. Must be a problem with Apple software.

Switched phone off and of and struggled to choose the printer ( have 2 different printers) so clearly a programming bug.

Please help Apple!!!

Hello Melomine,

To help us better assist you, can you let us know if you experience issues printing from your iPhone using another printer? If so, do you receive the same message/error? That information will help us plan how to proceed.

Please also check out the information in the following link to ensure the correct process is being used to print from iPhone, so we can make sure there's no issue there: Print from iPhone

Print from iPhone

Use AirPrint to print wirelessly to an AirPrint-enabled printer from apps such as Mail, Photos, and Safari. Many apps available on the App Store also support AirPrint.
iPhone and the printer must be on the same Wi-Fi network. See the Apple Support article About AirPrint.

See the status of a print job

Open the App Switcher, then tap Print Center.
The badge on the icon shows how many documents are in the queue.
To cancel a print job, select it in Print Center, then tap Cancel Printing.

Print a document

Tap the Share buttonthe More buttonthe Reply button, or the Actions Menu button (depending on the app you’re using), then tap Print. (Swipe up if you don’t see Print.)

Thanks!

Hi,

Knowing the exact printer make and model (and maybe the Wi-Fi router type) would help. Please do not post serial numbers or access codes, nor any other personal information.

Sometimes, a full power-cycle procedure (in the following order and with waiting times) may help in case of a device discovery problem:

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the iPhone, and all other computers/devices. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the iPhone. Finally, power on all other computers/devices.
