Family settings for Parent/Guardian

I am the organizer of the Family Group. Both children have iPads that I have set up screen time limits, apps that are always allowed, etc.

I recently added my husband to the family as he just purchased an iPad (he didn’t have an apple device previously). I’ve given him the status of Parent/Guardian.

When we go into the settings for either child on his iPad, none of the settings I have set up on the kids’ profiles as the organizer show up. It prompts him to set up restrictions as if no restrictions are already in place. He can even set up restrictions that conflict with settings I have set up as the Organizer.

What am I missing? It seems this would be much more helpful if he could see the settings already in place, and that he or I could modify them and it would update the settings for viewing on both of our devices.

Thanks!

Hi Sparky7884,

From what you've told us so far, this appears to be expected behavior from Family Sharing. While both the Organizer role and Parent/Guardian role can apply restrictions or parental controls, they are not directly linked between the two roles.

As outlined here: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

  • "If you're the parent or guardian of your device and want to prevent another family member from changing your settings, tap Use Screen Time Passcode to create a passcode, then re-enter the passcode to confirm. After you confirm your passcode you'll be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. This can be used to reset your Screen Time passcode if you forget it. "

Take care.
