My Apple Music just automatically starts playing when I put my AirPods in

I have small ears so AirPods have a hard time staying in and so I have to push them back it but that cause Apple Music to start playing even when I have the tan close and have another app open to watch videos on. It can’t be auto play because I don’t have that feature and I can’t get it to stop. It just started now so I don’t know what’s going on. Help!

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Hello danika131,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you do not want music to autoplay. We are happy to help.

These steps may help. Please try the steps here to turn off autoplay: Add music to your queue to play next on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device - Apple Support

"Let Autoplay pick what plays next

Autoplay takes the work out of choosing what to play next. Just play a song, then Autoplay finds similar songs and plays them afterward.

To see your Autoplay queue:

  1. Tap the song that's playing at the bottom of your screen.
  2. In the lower-right corner of your screen, tap Playing Next the Playing Next icon.
  3. Scroll down to Autoplay.

To turn Autoplay on or off, tap the Autoplay button the Autoplay button icon in the upper-right corner of your screen. If you turn off Autoplay on one of your devices, then Autoplay is turned off on any device that's signed in with your Apple ID."

Let us know if you have further questions.

Take care.

It's 2:21am where I live. My iPhone just decided to wake me up by playing random music over my bluetooth ear buds. So I hear your complaint, man. The misery is real.

I don't have the magic figure eight symbol either. I was about to uninstall Apple Music out of sheer frustration, when I realized this only happens with one set of bluetooth headphones.

Comparing the two I have, I discovered a workaround: in Settings > Bluetooth, don't tell iOS any device type for your headphones. I had previously set this to "headphones", and that was enough of a clue to Apple to play random music. After clearing this setting, things seem to work for me...... for now.

I'm hopeful. Maybe this will work for you too?
