can i still use a first generation apple tv

You can probably use it in a very limited capacity, it's a 16 year old device at this point.

It can no longer connect to the iTunes Store, and will be limited in what it can play. Obviously no 4K support, and you will need to convert any videos down to 720p and manually transfer them to its hard drive.
