Videos mute when watching multiple videos in photos app

iPhone 14 Pro Max

IOS 16.4.1 (a)

After the current update whenever you watch multiple videos (in the photos app) they continue to be muted after unmuting the first video.

For example the steps I take:

  • in the ‘photos’ app
  • Click on a video to watch
  • When video opens and plays it is muted
  • unmute video at the bottom of the screen
  • video now has sound
  • exit video
  • open new video
  • New video is muted and needs to be unmuted at the bottom of the screen

Before this update videos would only be muted when you first open the ‘photos’ app and would remain unmuted for each video you watch until you exit the ‘photo’ app

For example:

  • in the ‘photos’ app
  • Click on a video to watch
  • When video opens and plays it is muted
  • unmute video at the bottom of the screen
  • video now has sound
  • exit video
  • open new video
  • New video is still unmuted
  • videos won’t mute until you exit the photos app and start again from step one.

I have tried:

  • watching with phone not on silent
  • phone is not in any ‘focus’ mode eg. Not in ‘do not disturb’
  • All settings in ‘sounds and haptics’
  • All settings in ‘photos’
  • All settings in ‘accessibility’

Does anyone know if there is a way to change this function to how it was pre this current update?

I think they just changed it and there's no going back. I agree that it sucks a lot. You have to keep toggling the sound on, which is very annoying, or disable the Auto-play in settings, which also includes Live Photos... They should be separate options.

That is the answer I was looking for! It’s absolutely perfect. I didn’t want auto play and when auto play is set to off, the cursed audio muting in every video has gone! Thank you so much. Regards Peter
