Mail crashing after Monterey 12.6.5 upgrade

upgraded 2 days ago. Mail crashed when trying to send an email then has crashed every time it is relaunched. Rebooted the system - still the same. Big problems without my email facility!

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.6

Try starting up in Safe Mode and test Mail, then restart normally and retest Mail.

see > How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If you have installed any third-party AV, Cleaning or Optimizing junk-ware on the iMac, then that could be the problem. The fix is to uninstall the third-party junk-ware as per the developers instructions and then use Safe Mode followed by a normal restart.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

If still no good Disconnect from the Internet, then start Mail, look for the last rec'd eMail.

Does Mail crash if no internet?

Quit Mail & login to your WebMail in a Browser, if possible delete any later eMails there after the last rec'd one on the Mac.

If you have no POP accounts & they’re all IMAP accounts then in Mail’s Mailbox menu choose Rebuild.
