iPhone 14 Pro - Face ID constantly requiring passcode to activate

I get this message at least 4-5 times per day: "Your passcode is required to enable Face ID".

I am aware there are certain conditions in which iOS will require a passcode, and I am not triggering these conditions.

I have tried everything (including a fresh install from a laptop). The phone has even been replaced under AppleCare.

My best guess is that notifications are triggering the Face ID module to scan, which is causing Face ID failures. I have actually seen this happen (notification comes in, the lock on the dynamic island shakes which indicates Face ID is attempting to scan). But other than turning notifications off, I cannot find a solution to this problem.

Your device will require your passcode when you do the following:

  • Turn on or restart your device
  • Press the Home button or swipe up to unlock your device (you can change this)
  • Update your software
  • Erase your device
  • View or change passcode settings
  • Install iOS or iPadOS Configuration profiles
  • Called Emergency.
