In Maps, refine location doesn't "stick"

I have tried several times to fine tune the precise location of "Home" in Maps. The address shows up a few hundred meters from the actual location. The Refine Location function seems to work, but once I select done after correcting the location, the actual location of Home does not change. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I appreciate the attention. I don't think the feature I am talking about actually depends on cellular network quality. It all takes place in the theoretical world of Maps -- adjusting where a favorite location appears on Apple Maps.

In maps, on my Mac, I...

  1. Select my "Home" location.
  2. Click on the "..." and select "Refine Location."
  3. Pan and zoom (as directed) to move the displayed map section such that "Home" is now where I really want it to be (the actual location on the map).
  4. Click "Done."

Apple's documentation indicates that this should correct the location whenever I access it, but when I select Home again in Maps, it still shows up in the uncorrected (unrefined) spot.

I was not aware of the Refine Location feature in Maps until recently (perhaps because I never had cause to use it). So these first attempts are my first ever! Perhaps I am not doing it right? Perhaps it has never worked? Have you seen this work?

As a wild guess— Refine location would be dependent on available cell towers, other wifi devices, all in an effort to establish a triangulation.

It may well be this is the best it will get. You can try a cellular hotspot connection and compare your results.

If it does not work then it does not work for you, it would be relative to your specifics.

Try again at some later date if it is important to you.
