Why do I have difficulty with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices when USB 3 devices are attached to my computer?

Some USB 3 devices can generate radio frequency interference that can cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices operating in the 2.4GHz band to have issues communicating with your computer. Here are some tips to avoid this issue:

• If your USB device has a cable long enough that you can move the device, place it away from your Mac—and make sure not to place it behind your Mac, or near the hinge of its display. The antennas for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are located there, and USB 3 devices placed there might interfere with your wireless connections.

• If you're using adapters or dongles on a Mac computer with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, plug them into the front port on the left side of your Mac, or into the ports on the right side (if your computer has them). These ports are the farthest away from the antennas, making interference less likely.

• To avoid interference on the 2.4GHz band using Wi-Fi, try using the 5GHz band instead. You can change this on your wireless base station. Bluetooth always uses 2.4GHz, so this alternative isn't available for Bluetooth.

For reference....

Troubleshoot the Mac's Audio:

What to Try:

  • Unmute the App:

If an app has its own audio input and output settings, then perform things on the app itself.

  • Remove External Devices:

Verify what your output item is.

  • Disable Bluetooth:

If there are any microphones nearby, then they may be getting in the way via bluetooth.

See if an app is permitted to use your microphone.

(Applies to Intel-Based Macs Only) Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Sound) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM.

  • Boot into Safe Mode:

When you boot into Safe Mode, items load by default, with certain settings and caches set aside. So, hold down the shift key upon boot. See what happens then.

  • Create a New Administrator:

See if creating and logging in as a new administrator does the trick. There may be something misconfigured in your current user - something that is getting in the way. Go to: System Preferences > Users & Groups > Unlock > Click: "+" > Create the new administrator

Also keep in mind that software or system performance issues can also cause issues with how wireless devices operate. Maybe try booting into Safe Mode to see if it works any better.

If nothing else has changed besides an OS update, then you can also provide Apple with product feedback here in case it is a new bug (if enough people report the same issue, then maybe it will get Apple's attention):

Feedback - macOS - Apple

Keep in mind whenever third party devices are involved, vendors love to point fingers at each other.

There is also a possibility one of your Bluetooth devices is failing and it is just coincidental on its timing with an update. One way to test that theory would be to reinstall an older version of macOS (either to the internal or to an external SSD) if your laptop shipped with Monterey, but this is not a foolproof method since the same Ventura patch may have been applied to Monterey as well.

Verify these are Genuine AirPods:

Find the serial number of your AirPods, and then enter it here: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support. If all shows up as AirPods Pro, then you are all set. If not, then you would have been sold fake AirPods, and that may get in the way here.
