Driving Focus Auto-Reply sending TWO SMS messages

Has this bug been fixed yet? We’re coming up on 5 years of dealing with this and it still doesn’t seem to be addressed yet. Somebody want to figure it out? 🤦🏾‍♂️

Have you checked the following:

  • If you are receiving multiple messages from the same person while the Driving Focus Auto-Reply is active, your device might send an auto-reply for each incoming message. This can result in multiple auto-reply messages being sent.
  • You probably have created a Shortcuts Automation for Driving Focus in addition to the default Driving Focus. I tried even this there is no option to create this even
  • You also may have a third-party app that may be sending another message to the incoming messages.

Auto-Reply: I have encountered a unique challenge with the Focus app: replicating a specific functionality related to the built-in Driving mode. Despite my efforts, it seems impossible to recreate this feature within the app. It appears that Apple has exclusively endowed the Driving mode with this capability, making it inaccessible for customization or integration into other aspects of the Focus app.

For me this started happening since I got an iPhone 15 / upgraded to iOS 17.

it happens for iMessage as well as text.

the only thing I can think of that is different on my side is that I have two phones now. I only have one number, and I only have one on me while driving, and I would expect this to “just work”.

a single message sent to me while driving results in exactly TWO replies from my phone indicating I’m driving. Never one, never more than two, exactly two, every single time.

i have a MacBook and iPad and previously had one iPhone, and now have two (one with a sim, one without - it’s basically just lying around until I get rid of it, but still signed into iCloud with text forwarding and stuff)

I can see texts maybe being due to multi device (as annoying as that would be, and still should be fixed) but on iMessage where Apple controls all of it… come on.

still not convinced it’s the multi device that’s the issue, but I’ll reset my old phone and unlink it from my iCloud to see if it changes things and report back
