- With two-factor authentication (the current security system) and an Apple device, you have the option to generate a recovery key to help improve account security.

- A recovery key is a randomly generated 28-character code that you can use to help reset your password or regain access to your Apple ID. It is where you keep such things. Maybe on a piece of paper?

- You can generate a new recovery key from Settings or System Preferences on a trusted device signed in with your Apple ID." See the article for details about how to do this on different types of equipment (Apple equipment only).

- If you forget your Apple ID password and do not know your recovery key, you can try to regain access using your trusted device protected by a passcode.

- When you generate a recovery key, you can't use account recovery ( How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password - Apple Support ).

- "Using a recovery key is more secure, but it means that you’re responsible for maintaining access to your trusted devices and your recovery key. If you lose both of these items, you could be locked out of your account permanently."

Without another Trusted Device signed into your Apple ID to generate the key, there is no other options. The Recovery Key is not stored anywhere for you and Apple does not have a copy of it. That is something that needs to be saved by you in a safe location and without it or another Trusted Device, you will no longer be able to use your Apple ID account.


As stated in the Support Article:

This gives you more control of your account recovery methods and can help prevent an attacker from gaining access to and taking control of your account. However, if you lose your recovery key and can’t access one of your trusted devices, you'll be locked out of your account permanently.
